Lantern-making workshops

The 3rd Candlelit Dartmouth lantern procession is happening on Friday 11th December. We have exciting plans for the procession this year and will be basing it on the theme of "the river". This means that we can expect lanterns constructed from willow and paper, in the shape of fish, boats and whatever else inspires our lantern makers.
We are currently in the process of holding lantern-making workshops in the local primary schools:
Blackawton - Thursday 12th November
Dartmouth - Monday 16th November Kingswear - Tuesday 17th November St Johns Dartmouth - Friday 27th November
Stoke Fleming - TBA
On Sunday 15th November, at Dartmouth Community college, the Candlelit Dartmouth team together with Nicola Perrott, Head of Art & Design at the college, ran a free public workshop to create lanterns for the Candlelit Dartmouth procession. The workshop was well attended by both families and girl guides and around thirty lanterns were constructed - including some rather ambitious ones - as the photos below show !
This year’s theme is ‘the river’ so look out in the procession for flamboyant fishes of all kinds, as well as seabirds, and boats. Some of the most ambitious of the lantern creations include a tug and a Royal Naval destroyer ! All materials at these workshops are funded by Candlelit Dartmouth and are provided free of charge to the lantern makers.
