Candlelit Dartmouth 2010 - earlier, later, longer and more This year, Candlelit Dartmouth will be one week earlier than previously - the first weekend in December. This means that you'll be able to do more of your Christmas shopping both in our markets and in the wonderfully unique shops in Dartmouth.
The Friday evening procession will start later - at 7pm - to give the grown-ups more time to get home from work and join in the fun.
It will be a longer event - with the market, entertainment and other events continuing on Sunday 5th December. There will also be more happening. We're introducing some new events this year. Checkout the timetable of events for more information.
Lantern making By 1st July, nine lanterns had already been constructed for this year's procession !
At the invitation of Nicola Perrot, Head of Art, workshops took place at Dartmouth Community College during their "activities week". Creations included a dolphin, a shark, a sea horse, a turtle and a goblin's head ! The piece-de-resistance was undoubtedly the beautiful swan pictured below.
The Community College also kindly provided working space in the sculpture studio for the construction of three massive willow and tissue "heads" that will star as the apparitions in the forthcoming production of Macbeth at Dartmouth Castle by the Inn Theatre Company. We hope later to see these carried in the Candlelit Dartmouth lantern procession by costumed cast members. Continuing this theme, we'd like to involve more local clubs, groups and societies in this year's procession - carrying lanterns and dressed in their "uniform". The theme for the lantern procession this year is "Dartmouth" so nothing could be more appropriate. If any clubs, groups or societies would like to take this on board we'd be happy to talk about running workshops with them.
