The cost of staging the Candlelit Dartmouth event runs to thousands of pounds - primarily to fund our advertising and promotion, the lantern-making materials and the entertainment programme. The event organisers need to raise these funds each year to guarantee the future of Candlelit Dartmouth. This year's key fund-raising initiatives are:
Dartmouth Regatta fireworks cruise
Fund-raising started early this year for the Candlelit Dartmouth team, and on Regatta Saturday (29th August) they arranged a special evening cruise to enjoy one of the most amazing sights of the Regatta. Riverlink’s ‘Cardiff Castle’ departed from Dartmouth at approximately 8pm and after a short cruise moored up allowing you an opportunity to watch the spectacular Regatta fireworks from a superb river position. The boat will then return at ~ 10.15pm.
An auction supper at Cafe Alf Resco
Our fundraising auction, held on Tuesday 3rd November at Cafe Alf Resco, was once again a tremendous success - raising over £2,500 towards the funding of Candlelit Dartmouth. Many thanks to all those who attended and contributed so generously to our cause and to all at Alf's for providing the perfect venue and a great rustic supper. Thanks also to NIck Crosley whose auctioneering skills played a significant part in achieving our total. Check out the "fundraising" page for more information on our fundraising events and activities.
The sale of lanterns, mugs and mulled wine
The Candlelit Dartmouth team will be manning their own stall in Royal Avenue Gardens on both Friday and Saturday where we will again be selling lanterns at £5 each. New for this year, we will also be retailing a Candlelit Dartmouth commemorative mug (£3). Local artist Simon Hart has used the skyline of the centre of Dartmouth, including St Saviours Church, the Boatfloat and the Royal Castle, as the inspiration for the design. These are expected to be extremely popular. For the kids, you can also purchase it filled with sweets (£5) although adults may prefer it filled with a generous measure of mulled wine (also £5) !
The Candlelit Dartmouth stall will once again be selling the best mulled wine available at the event - £5 with a commemorative mug - otherwise £2. Please support the Candlelit Dartmouth stall. It is an important source of fundraising to guarantee the future of this great festive event.
Sponsorship Although, this year, we're not asking local businesses to sponsor the event by providing a financial donation, such donations are always welcome. Please contact any member of the team (see our "Contact the team" page) or send us an email.
Thanks also to the Compass Office Shop for the copying and printing of promotional materials for the event and to all other organisations and individuals who have provided their support.
