A number of competitions will be running during Candlelit Dartmouth 2009:
Art competition
Short-listed entrants in a special art competition at Dartmouth Community College will be displayed at the Flavel, but if you want to see the winning entry, call in close by, to Baxter’s Gallery, on Foss Street, where it will be on display throughout the Christmas period.
Poetry competition
Local schools have been busy writing poems for the event and the best 3 will be read out at the Rotary Club Christmas Carol Service which starts at 5.30pm on Saturday in St Saviours Church.
Name that tune
Many of the town’s shops are entering into the spirit of Candlelit Dartmouth with specially decorated window displays based on a Christmas carol or a song. Have a good look and see if you can guess the song.

Window competition
The Chamber of Trade is once again sponsoring and judging all the seasonal window displays around the town - including those entering the "name that tune" competition.
Xmas Tache competition
Andy Carter of Dartmouth Photography has come up with the idea of a Dartmouth Xmas Tache competition. Local boys with a sense of fun have been growing facial hair for a Tache off, at the Bandstand at 4pm. Come and see if you can spot a Fu Manchu, a handlebar, a Dali, a toothbrush, a pencil or perhaps a walrus !
If you would like to enter, you have until December 10 to do so, which might be a bit late to grow something, so if you fancy joining in the fun, the advice is to do it now. Only a real moustache is acceptable, so no hair pieces, no goatees and no full beards.
Prizes will be awarded to the best three moustaches on the day, and unless the moustache grower can not bear to part with his new creation, they will then be shaved off!
Candlelit Dartmouth is an initiative originally conceived by the Dartmouth Chamber of Trade and is promoted by Born Hectic Events.
